This Natural African Blackwood block (Dalbergia melanoxylon) represents one of the finest and most technically advanced hardwoods available to craftsmen.
Native to East Africa, African Blackwood is renowned for its deep natural black color, exceptional density, and outstanding dimensional stability. Unlike stained or treated woods, its dark tone is intrinsic to the heartwood, offering authentic, through-and-through coloration.

Due to its density, African Blackwood can even sink in water, a rare property that highlights its compact fiber structure.
Workability
Although extremely hard, it machines cleanly with sharp tooling and holds crisp details exceptionally well. It turns beautifully and responds very well to fine sanding and polishing, making it a favorite among precision makers.
