Natural Iroko (Milicia excelsa / Milicia regia) is often called the “African Teak” for its remarkable durability, moisture resistance, and beautiful golden-brown hue. Native to West and Central Africa, Iroko has been historically valued for shipbuilding, furniture, and musical instruments due to its exceptional hardness and longevity. Today, artisans prize it for its balance of strength, stability, and aesthetic appeal.
One of Iroko’s most interesting features is its natural oils, which make the wood highly resistant to moisture, decay, and insect damage. This natural resilience ensures that projects made from Iroko remain stable and long-lasting, even in challenging conditions. Over time, its golden-brown color deepens to a rich, warm tone, highlighting the subtle, sometimes interlocked grain patterns that give each block character.
